New Christmas Tradition to start this year!

Hey parents!

Give your kids the gifts of knowledge instead of chocolates by doing this instead of an advent calendar.

Once my son was old enough to understand and enjoy the experience of Christmas, I scoured the internet for ideas, on traditions to start with him and his younger sister, once she's old enough to enjoy them.

I found this amazing idea, which I did in December 2020 and my son LOVED it. Instead of going and buying a traditional advent calendar, which normally just consists of chocolates or sweets, go and buy 24 books and wrap them.

Each night from the 1st until the 24th of December, allow your child to unwrap one book, which you'll read to them that night, as their bedtime story. Then on Christmas day, read them the story of Christmas from your childrens' bible. To add extra fun, doing a scavenger hunt to find each nights book is also a great idea.

Now I know what you're thinking, why are we talking about Christmas in May, well books are EXPENSIVE so what I've done this year is buy 4 books per month (I need 48 books in total for my two kids) so I'm not outlaying a huge amount of money on books in say November.

And as an added bonus to our readers, our friends at Charley's boxes and Happy Reader are offering the following discounts,

Charley's Boxes: R50.00 discount on your first subscription with them.

PROMO CODE: momsonabudget

Happy Reader: 10% discount on all childrens books valid until the 31st of December 2021. We are also working on an exciting competition with Happy Reader on Instagram, which we'll share soon.

Think about it this way, you're filling your child with knowledge, wonder and letting their imaginations soar, instead of pumping them full of sweets or chocolates. And you're creating amazing memories for your babies.

Much Love

Laura

It’s day 18 of what can only be described as a hostage situation…. Also known as “school holidays”. Day 1: This is wonderful! Almost a whole month with my two kids under 3. Day 2: Ok so the house has been destroyed by mini versions of myself but it’s ok, I’ll do a clean up twice a day. Day 3: TV time rules are now out the window. Day 4: Give out a few Christmas gifts early in exchange for 5 minutes of silence. Day 5: What the hell is that smell? Oh wait, that’s me…. Day 6: What day is it? Can I have a nap please. Day 7: Check in with fellow moms, I am not alone, everyone’s over the holidays now…. Day 8: I now understand why my mom used to send me to my aunts for school holidays. Day 9:  Christmas Eve, try to go for a last minute shop before Christmas Day…. Buy each kiddo another toy to avoid shop meltdown. Day 10:  Christmas Day, granny exhausted kids, Granny for the win! Tips for First Time Moms....

******UPDATES IN PINK****** Labour pain : feels like the worst period pain you've ever had, lasts a while then goes away, comes back for a while goes away. Start timing the duration of the pain experienced and the time between when there's no pain. Water Breaking : Literally feels like a "pop", then instant release of pressure, followed by TONS of liquid, sit on the toilet and once you're ready to go to the hospital put a thick sanitary pad in your underwear. After birth : bath with salt in the water, it will burn but it will help the healing process. Also in case you don't already know, you'll continue bleeding for at least a month after birth. So stock up on pads. Don't  worry about stocking up on size1,2 & 3 diapers, you'll quickly move to size 4 and then 5, stock up on size 5.... believe me. Breastfeeding : I could only breastfeed both of my kids for 5 days. There's absolutely no shame in not being able to breastfeed. Some of us can...

Post baby body image

The intention of this post is to reassure every single women and especially moms with body image issues that we ALL have them. These photos of me were taken exactly 8 days after giving birth to my daughter, Emma. I knew I had a "pouch" but I didn't care. I was so proud of my body for the absolute miracle of being able to birth 2 kids, 18 months apart. I was superwoman. My body was a freaking machine! Prior to this, I would've been on a diet for months before allowing any bikini pictures to be taken of me, let alone actually post them. I remember a few years back exercising and dieting like a machine for months before going on vacation to Zanzibar and even then I wasn't entirely happy with my body. The pride I had in my body, was unfortunately short lived though. We are all constantly inundated, with edited photos of women and even though, we all know those pictures aren't real, we still unconsciously shame ourselves for not looking a certain way. My weight has...
