Friday Feature: Momprenuer Bronwen Beytell owner of Wee Bonnie

This weeks Friday Feature Mompreneur is really important to me personally, as she was my doula for Emmas birth and was ultimately a HUGE part of saving her life.

With all of the chaos going on last year, we looked in to going, the midwife & doula route because that meant that obviously my fiancé would be able to be there for the birth, as pretty much all hospitals weren't allowing dads in. Which is so sad and my heart truly goes out to all of the dads out there who couldn't be there for the amazing experience of watching their baby be born and to the super moms who had to do it alone.

Bronwen was absolutely amazing, she held me, rocked me, massaged me, reassured me and kept us all calm through the entire birthing experience. I have such a huge amount of respect for Doulas, they are so underrated and underappreciated. If you're currently pregnant, please do yourself a favour and look in to getting a doula for your birth!

Bron isn't just a doula though, she actually started out with a mommy business called : Wee Bonnie, selling everything from breast pumps, to Epson salt (you'll need this for your after birth baths - believe me) to even making personalised clothing and Christmas baubles.

Here's Bronwens' story:

Wee Bonnie came into existence from a passion for children and babies. Bronwen found that most retail stores were selling toys at an exponential mark-up and decided that parents needed a better option. Starting in  2011 Bronwen opened her first online store with the option to have the products delivered straight to the client's door at a fraction of the price.

She developed Wee Bonnies' product range to meet a need in the market and over the years has reduced the toy range and instead expanded their holistic product range ie Baltic Amber Teething Beads, Epson salts and Raspberry tea.

While retaining their personalised product range of Christmas baubles, Clothing designs and baby grows. "Our focus is to provide the best quality service and products to our clients!"

In 2014 Bronwen had a calling to get more involved with the birthing world and started to study to be a Doula in 2014.  After moving to  KZN, she started practicing under PDA Health Pty Ltd gaining access into both the Hospital environment as well as Homebirths.  She has assisted mothers in approximately 5 different Hospitals and as of 15 August 2020 she has assisted about 63 pregnant and labouring mothers.  Further to this, Bronwen is also a HPCSA registered BLS medic and a facilitator!

Since a young age Bronwen has had a keen interest in the pregnancy, labour and birthing world after having witnessed an unplanned home birth in her family home.  After she matriculated. She became a BLS Medic and spent a few years as an events medic. But found that her passion was not fully fulfilled and in 2015 she started her training as a Doula. This was the perfect option to satisfy her kind, caring and  affectionate nature while simultaneously fulfilling her passion. Her journey led her to furthering herself as a Doula by attending several Midwifery assistant workshops, the Sensitive Midwifery Conversion and training in the use of a Rebozo.

She has been blessed to have grown under the observation of several different midwives and gynaecologists, both from a hospital and home birth perspective. Bronwen was able to assist with the first delivery at Grace Birthing Centre and has found her true birthing tribe at the centre who shares her passion with her and she has not looked back.

As a mother of two beautiful girls, both delivered naturally she feels a deep spiritual connection with the expectant and labouring mothers and believes “… that all woman have the power and to birth without fear and the right to have a powerful and therapeutic birthing experience.”

Bronwen advertises via Facebook and by leaving pamphlets at Birthing Centre and Doctors rooms

Post baby body image

The intention of this post is to reassure every single women and especially moms with body image issues that we ALL have them. These photos of me were taken exactly 8 days after giving birth to my daughter, Emma. I knew I had a "pouch" but I didn't care. I was so proud of my body for the absolute miracle of being able to birth 2 kids, 18 months apart. I was superwoman. My body was a freaking machine! Prior to this, I would've been on a diet for months before allowing any bikini pictures to be taken of me, let alone actually post them. I remember a few years back exercising and dieting like a machine for months before going on vacation to Zanzibar and even then I wasn't entirely happy with my body. The pride I had in my body, was unfortunately short lived though. We are all constantly inundated, with edited photos of women and even though, we all know those pictures aren't real, we still unconsciously shame ourselves for not looking a certain way. My weight has...

Footling Breech Birth

Today is a very special day. It's my daughter Emmas first birthday and also the day she died and was revived. I had Emma at a birthing center with a midwife and doula, my water broke the night before at 11pm, we rushed off to the birthing centre and waited it out.  The midwife checked and all was fine, she'd dropped and was in the correct position (to come out head first) but things changed without us actually knowing. Apparently Ems was swimming around in "the biggest placenta" my midwife or doula had ever seen, which was filled with tons of ambionic fluid. Which is great except this meant that over the course of the night she flipped around. All of a sudden I was in active labour and I kept saying it felt as though she was kicking her way out. Everyone just assumed that she was hitting or punching. Anyway as I start to push, I look down (I was sort of standing/squatting) and I see feet coming out of me, not a head.  It was terrifying, she had turned and was coming o...

So your kids birthday is in January

So.... my son Riley’s birth date was supposed to be the 31st of January three years ago but little did we know our little one was impatient and after 27 hours of labour (unmediated and no he’ll never hear the end of that story... he’ll be like 50 and my speech will include his birth story..... FOREVER) Anyway so my guy arrived 3 years ago on the 15th of January! Yip smack bang in the middle of the brokest month of the year. So if this is the case for you as well, I’ve got you covered. Either only celebrate your kiddos birthday after payday (I mean they won’t really remember) just have family over for a mini celebration OR prepare everything months in advance. When you’re out doing your monthly shop, grab a gift or 2 and hide it away. In most cases especially with my favourite gifting lady Sayuri from All in the Presents, you can prepay for your kids party packs MONTHS in advance, same with the cake, etc. Decor can be bought from the China shops, cheap as chips. You can also grab a few ...
