Beauty on a Budget : Mayonnaise hair mask

Hi Lovely Ladies,

Here's a great beauty on a budget trick, I got from one of my readers: use mayonnaise as a hair mask! Its FAR cheaper than actually buying a hair mask and you probably already have a jar of mayo in your fridge right now.

Ok so anyone who reads my blog or lives within a 30km radius of me, knows, that I've been having some, lets say.... "Hair Issues".

For those of you that don't know, I'm brunette naturally and decided to do what all crazy people do at some point or another in their life and dye my hair blonde AT HOME.

This resulted a long journey of trying to fix my yellow, orange and purple "unicorn hair". I eventually did and when I posted the story of the 5 stages of hair grief I'd gone through TWICE, a lovely lady told me about how to fix the next problem - what all of this had done to the health of my hair and that I should try using mayonnaise as a hair treatment.

This works! And the best part is, its cheap. You're looking at R35 at the most for a jar of mayo (the brand doesn't matter ladies, I use with Cross and Blackwell, you could even make your own, there are tons of recipes available online). Don't go with low or non fat mayo though (why does that even exist?) because that wont have the ingredients that will benefit your hair.

So why does Mayonnaise work so well? Mayonnaise contains three vital ingredients, egg, oil and vinegar. These ingredients provide your hair with deep hydration, thus repairing damage caused by various elements, from sun damage to over dying it.

However while researching this I found that there are actually tons of benefits to using some good old mayonnaise as a hair mask, such as,

It reduces dandruff

Increases hair density

Restores PH balance

Makes hair shaft stronger

Increases hairs strength

Reduces frizz

Repairs damage and gives your hair a beautiful shine.

Ok so here's what you do,

Depending on the length of your hair you'll need about a half to a full cup of mayonnaise.

Take this amount out of the fridge about half an hour before you intend on using it as a hair mask as the ingredients work best at room temp.

Run warm water over your hair, don't wash it at all before hand.

Massage the mayonnaise into your hair and sculpt, then take a

wide toothed comb and comb it through your hair ensuring it is fully covered.

Then either put on a shower cap or hell clingwrap your hair, the heat is what will activate the oils and fats in the mayo. Leave on for 30-60 minutes. In my case I sleep with it on - sexy I know ;) then wash your hair but don't over do it with the shampoo, use just enough to get the mayonnaise out.

Repeat as often as you like, I do this once a week.

Tips for First Time Moms....

******UPDATES IN PINK****** Labour pain : feels like the worst period pain you've ever had, lasts a while then goes away, comes back for a while goes away. Start timing the duration of the pain experienced and the time between when there's no pain. Water Breaking : Literally feels like a "pop", then instant release of pressure, followed by TONS of liquid, sit on the toilet and once you're ready to go to the hospital put a thick sanitary pad in your underwear. After birth : bath with salt in the water, it will burn but it will help the healing process. Also in case you don't already know, you'll continue bleeding for at least a month after birth. So stock up on pads. Don't  worry about stocking up on size1,2 & 3 diapers, you'll quickly move to size 4 and then 5, stock up on size 5.... believe me. Breastfeeding : I could only breastfeed both of my kids for 5 days. There's absolutely no shame in not being able to breastfeed. Some of us can...

School holidays

It’s day 18 of what can only be described as a hostage situation…. Also known as “school holidays”. Day 1: This is wonderful! Almost a whole month with my two kids under 3. Day 2: Ok so the house has been destroyed by mini versions of myself but it’s ok, I’ll do a clean up twice a day. Day 3: TV time rules are now out the window. Day 4: Give out a few Christmas gifts early in exchange for 5 minutes of silence. Day 5: What the hell is that smell? Oh wait, that’s me…. Day 6: What day is it? Can I have a nap please. Day 7: Check in with fellow moms, I am not alone, everyone’s over the holidays now…. Day 8: I now understand why my mom used to send me to my aunts for school holidays. Day 9:  Christmas Eve, try to go for a last minute shop before Christmas Day…. Buy each kiddo another toy to avoid shop meltdown. Day 10:  Christmas Day, granny exhausted kids, Granny for the win! Day 11: Toys EVERYWHERE Day 12: Cake for breakfast? Day 13: I’ve forgotten what it’s like to go to the toi...

Beauty on a Budget..

Hello Ladies, I heard about this home made face mask about 10 years ago and have been doing it since. Not only are the ingredients probably already in your cupboard/pantry (if not they're cheap) but the benefits are AMAZING. 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon  2 tablespoons of honey Mix all ingredients together and leave on your face for 20 minutes. Benefits: Nutmeg:  makes the skin plump, which can temporarily reduce and remove fine lines and ugly wrinkles. Cinnamon:  is an antiseptic, meaning it will help reduce the bacteria on the surface of your skin to aid in the prevention of pimples and even help dry out existing pimples. It also stimulates and revitalizes the skin by drawing blood, oxygen and nutrients to the surface of your skin, leaving you glowing! H oney:  plumps up the skin with natural moisturizers, and in addition, is lush in antioxidants and has antimicrobial attributes.  Honey is also naturally antibacterial, so it’s...
