Feature Friday : Momprenuer Hayley Van Rooyen owner of Smashing Pinatas

 Happy Friday Lovlies!

This weeks Feature Friday is on mompreneur, Hayley Van Rooyen, who has started her own side hustle: Smashing Piñatas, while also working and raising 2 beautiful daughters! So basically, I'm profiling super women this week.....

Hayley actually didn't intend on this becoming a business at all, she simply loved throwing birthday bashes for her daughters and instead of outsourcing, she started making everything from scratch. Its amazing to think that her business was started by making 1 piñata, 4 years ago for her daughter.

Here's her story,

Hayley started her business, Smashing piñatas, when she was put on reduced hours at work due to lockdown restrictions last year. And instead of binge watching Netflix and eating too much (like I did) she decided to keep herself busy by creating uniquely designed and crafted piñatas. Which she then started advertising on Facebook.

So how did the idea of making piñatas come about? Well, about 4 years ago Hayleys youngest daughter requested a Hawaiian themed birthday party and super mom, Hayley, decided to try and make her a piñata, from scratch, to go with the theme. The first piñata was of a flip flop and the joy in creating that first piñata grew not only into a new birthday tradition for all future birthdays but into the business "Smashing Piñatas".

Hayley makes piñatas of all kinds, the most popular, of course, being the unicorn piñata (as a girl mom I fully understand this). She creates dinosaurs, Paw Patrol, 30th birthday piñatas (What a smashing way to enter your thirties :) see what I did there, "smashing".... ok never mind).

A dear friend of Hayleys asked her to create a giant heart piñatas for their wedding as Hayley refers to below,

"I felt very proud when I walked into the reception hall to see my ‘work of art’ suspended from the ceiling in the middle of the dance floor.  People often ask me if I get sad seeing all my work getting hit and smashed but seeing the joy on the children’s or people’s faces makes it all worth while. My piñatas have been enjoyed from a one year old to a ‘golden oldie’ who had never had one before."

"I absolutely love arranging parties for my daughters. I’ve always said that I want them to look back and remember each party that they have enjoyed. When I decide on a theme I bring it through from the invites all the way to the cupcakes that are sent to school. I love spending time at home with my family and pets and treasure the days we get to spend together."

So if you're looking for a beautifully, personalised piñata for a special event coming up, please give Hayley a shout.

Post baby body image

The intention of this post is to reassure every single women and especially moms with body image issues that we ALL have them. These photos of me were taken exactly 8 days after giving birth to my daughter, Emma. I knew I had a "pouch" but I didn't care. I was so proud of my body for the absolute miracle of being able to birth 2 kids, 18 months apart. I was superwoman. My body was a freaking machine! Prior to this, I would've been on a diet for months before allowing any bikini pictures to be taken of me, let alone actually post them. I remember a few years back exercising and dieting like a machine for months before going on vacation to Zanzibar and even then I wasn't entirely happy with my body. The pride I had in my body, was unfortunately short lived though. We are all constantly inundated, with edited photos of women and even though, we all know those pictures aren't real, we still unconsciously shame ourselves for not looking a certain way. My weight has...

So your kids birthday is in January

So.... my son Riley’s birth date was supposed to be the 31st of January three years ago but little did we know our little one was impatient and after 27 hours of labour (unmediated and no he’ll never hear the end of that story... he’ll be like 50 and my speech will include his birth story..... FOREVER) Anyway so my guy arrived 3 years ago on the 15th of January! Yip smack bang in the middle of the brokest month of the year. So if this is the case for you as well, I’ve got you covered. Either only celebrate your kiddos birthday after payday (I mean they won’t really remember) just have family over for a mini celebration OR prepare everything months in advance. When you’re out doing your monthly shop, grab a gift or 2 and hide it away. In most cases especially with my favourite gifting lady Sayuri from All in the Presents, you can prepay for your kids party packs MONTHS in advance, same with the cake, etc. Decor can be bought from the China shops, cheap as chips. You can also grab a few ...

It’s day 18 of what can only be described as a hostage situation…. Also known as “school holidays”. Day 1: This is wonderful! Almost a whole month with my two kids under 3. Day 2: Ok so the house has been destroyed by mini versions of myself but it’s ok, I’ll do a clean up twice a day. Day 3: TV time rules are now out the window. Day 4: Give out a few Christmas gifts early in exchange for 5 minutes of silence. Day 5: What the hell is that smell? Oh wait, that’s me…. Day 6: What day is it? Can I have a nap please. Day 7: Check in with fellow moms, I am not alone, everyone’s over the holidays now…. Day 8: I now understand why my mom used to send me to my aunts for school holidays. Day 9:  Christmas Eve, try to go for a last minute shop before Christmas Day…. Buy each kiddo another toy to avoid shop meltdown. Day 10:  Christmas Day, granny exhausted kids, Granny for the win!
