Feature Friday : Momprenuer Hayley Van Rooyen owner of Smashing Pinatas

 Happy Friday Lovlies!

This weeks Feature Friday is on mompreneur, Hayley Van Rooyen, who has started her own side hustle: Smashing Piñatas, while also working and raising 2 beautiful daughters! So basically, I'm profiling super women this week.....

Hayley actually didn't intend on this becoming a business at all, she simply loved throwing birthday bashes for her daughters and instead of outsourcing, she started making everything from scratch. Its amazing to think that her business was started by making 1 piñata, 4 years ago for her daughter.

Here's her story,

Hayley started her business, Smashing piñatas, when she was put on reduced hours at work due to lockdown restrictions last year. And instead of binge watching Netflix and eating too much (like I did) she decided to keep herself busy by creating uniquely designed and crafted piñatas. Which she then started advertising on Facebook.

So how did the idea of making piñatas come about? Well, about 4 years ago Hayleys youngest daughter requested a Hawaiian themed birthday party and super mom, Hayley, decided to try and make her a piñata, from scratch, to go with the theme. The first piñata was of a flip flop and the joy in creating that first piñata grew not only into a new birthday tradition for all future birthdays but into the business "Smashing Piñatas".

Hayley makes piñatas of all kinds, the most popular, of course, being the unicorn piñata (as a girl mom I fully understand this). She creates dinosaurs, Paw Patrol, 30th birthday piñatas (What a smashing way to enter your thirties :) see what I did there, "smashing".... ok never mind).

A dear friend of Hayleys asked her to create a giant heart piñatas for their wedding as Hayley refers to below,

"I felt very proud when I walked into the reception hall to see my ‘work of art’ suspended from the ceiling in the middle of the dance floor.  People often ask me if I get sad seeing all my work getting hit and smashed but seeing the joy on the children’s or people’s faces makes it all worth while. My piñatas have been enjoyed from a one year old to a ‘golden oldie’ who had never had one before."

"I absolutely love arranging parties for my daughters. I’ve always said that I want them to look back and remember each party that they have enjoyed. When I decide on a theme I bring it through from the invites all the way to the cupcakes that are sent to school. I love spending time at home with my family and pets and treasure the days we get to spend together."

So if you're looking for a beautifully, personalised piñata for a special event coming up, please give Hayley a shout.

Day 4: Give out a few Christmas gifts early in exchange for 5 minutes of silence. Day 5: What the hell is that smell? Oh wait, that’s me…. Day 6: What day is it? Can I have a nap please. Day 7: Check in with fellow moms, I am not alone, everyone’s over the holidays now…. Day 8: I now understand why my mom used to send me to my aunts for school holidays. Day 9:  Christmas Eve, try to go for a last minute shop before Christmas Day…. Buy each kiddo another toy to avoid shop meltdown. Day 10:  Christmas Day, granny exhausted kids, Granny for the win! Tips for First Time Moms....

******UPDATES IN PINK****** Labour pain : feels like the worst period pain you've ever had, lasts a while then goes away, comes back for a while goes away. Start timing the duration of the pain experienced and the time between when there's no pain. Water Breaking : Literally feels like a "pop", then instant release of pressure, followed by TONS of liquid, sit on the toilet and once you're ready to go to the hospital put a thick sanitary pad in your underwear. After birth : bath with salt in the water, it will burn but it will help the healing process. Also in case you don't already know, you'll continue bleeding for at least a month after birth. So stock up on pads. Don't  worry about stocking up on size1,2 & 3 diapers, you'll quickly move to size 4 and then 5, stock up on size 5.... believe me. Breastfeeding : I could only breastfeed both of my kids for 5 days. There's absolutely no shame in not being able to breastfeed. Some of us can...

Toddler won’t get out of PJs and into clothes for preschool? Here’s what I did…

Toddlers, toddlers, toddlers…. You can ‘prepare’ as much as you want for the inevitable craziness raising these tiny humans will entail and you may think you’re prepared, you’re not….. Like everyone else with kids I’ve watched literally every single episode of Super Nanny there is. So when my almost 3 year old son started refusing to get out of his PJs into “normal” clothes for preschool, I channeled my inner super nanny. I was like “ok then you’re going in your PJs”. Did this work? No, not one bit, every morning the same thing would happen and off he went to school in his PJs. So I chat to all my mom friends about this and everyone’s going maybe he has sensory issues, etc so I’m googling that and trying to figure out what that is and what I should do. Then I mention it to my one friend (who isn’t a mom…. Yet) and she said to me “Laura his PJs sound so cool! Glow in the dark Jurassic Park PJs, Spider man PJs, if I was him I also wouldn’t want to get into “normal” clothes to go to presc...
